Want to help make a difference in the engineering and architecture industries?

Are you passionate about advancing Māori culture, promoting gender equity, and advocating for diversity, equity, and inclusion in the engineering and architecture industries? If so, we need your expertise and experience on The Diversity Agenda Steering Committee!

The Diversity Agenda is the award-winning initiative delivered in partnership by Te Ao Rangahau Engineering New Zealand, the Association of Consulting and Engineering New Zealand, and Te Kāhui Whaihanga New Zealand Institute of Architects. Our vision is to ensure that our engineering and architecture professions include everyone so that the world we create is as diverse and inspiring as the people in it.

Currently, we have 160 firms committed to our cause, with nearly 60 CEOs and business owners pledging their personal dedication to our Diversity Agenda Accord, which holds them accountable for driving change within their organisations.

We’re looking for new committee members to join us this year, particularly people with a background or lived experience in Te Ao Māori, advancing gender equality, or advocacy. We are looking for two new members. Your fresh perspective and expertise are vital to our continued success. Additionally, those with an architecture background are encouraged to apply as we need more voices from our architecture community at the table.

Our objectives include ensuring that all firms develop diversity and inclusion strategies, enhance their cultural competence in Te Āo Māori, and establish plans to narrow the gender pay equity gap to within +/- 1%. Despite progress in attracting women to our professions, we are still losing them at an alarming rate. This year we’re bringing our focus to increasing women in senior leadership roles, attracting Māori into our professions, and growing the movement – amplifying our impact, and creating lasting change.

As a committee member, here’s what we need from you:
  • Your fresh ideas, passion, and energy
  • Attendance and active contribution at monthly meetings
  • Participation in the annual summit at Parliament
  • Active contribution to driving progress toward our 2024 initiatives and,
  • Your organisation will need to be a member of the Accord
Here’s what you’ll get:
  • An ability to lead and influence DEI broadly into the engineering and architecture communities across Aotearoa
  • A committed and dedicated support team of Charlotte and Holly
  • You’ll be part of a Steering Committee that is passionate about seeing change and making it happen
  • Being part of the change!

To apply, please fill out this form. Applications close Sunday 14th April 2024.

Let’s work together to achieve meaningful change and create diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplaces, where everyone sees a home in our industries.
