Definitions of Woman and Man Amendment Bill

The Diversity Agenda acknowledges the current public and parliamentary debate regarding the Legislation (Definitions of Woman and Man) Amendment Bill and the impact these conversations may be having across our workplaces, communities, and wider industry.

We recognise that for many transgender, non-binary, intersex, rainbow and takatāpui people, conversations around identity, recognition, and belonging are deeply personal and can significantly affect wellbeing and psychological safety.

As an industry movement, our position remains clear: every person deserves to be treated with dignity, respect, and humanity.

At times like this, leadership matters. How organisations respond — through culture, behaviour, language, and support — influences whether people feel safe to participate fully and authentically in our workplaces and professional communities.

The Diversity Agenda encourages leaders and organisations across our sector to:
→  reinforce respectful and inclusive workplace expectations
→  support employees who may be feeling impacted or vulnerable
→  model constructive and respectful dialogue, particularly where differing views exist
→  continue building environments where all people can belong, contribute, and thrive

We respect the role of democratic process and constructive public discussion. However, we do not support discourse that dehumanises, excludes, or diminishes the dignity of individuals or communities.

The Diversity Agenda remains committed to supporting a profession where everyone feels safe, valued, and able to contribute fully.
